Sweat stains are funny. Cut up T-shirts are not.

I wonder how the black interns like the "whip" reference????

This from an industry that refuses to have fair hiring practices for African Americans & other minorities in 2009???

The fake ass "cool club". They still don't get it. The Klan has better hiring practices!

DIVERSITY NOW!!!!!

This gonna raise some ire over at http://kissmyblackads.blogspot.com

Guest's picture

I'm sure that's exactly what they meant for everyone to take it as. I'm black- I think this shirt is genius. "Whip" the interns in to shape. It's 2009- isn't it time for everything to not be so black and white? Why can't you see this for what it is- creative and humorous.

Guest's picture

You're not fooling anyone cracker. If you're Black I'm the freakin' Pope.

Guest's picture

i completely agree. I am quite sure that this design was not created to have even the slightest racial connotations. It's comments like the one above which stop the world from moving forward into a time when we are all truly equal. skin colour should not be something that people even consider when viewing an innocent (and completely non-race related) advertisement. so respect the idea and stop playing the 'racist' card.

Guest's picture

The black interns are going to love this!

Guest's picture

what black interns?

Guest's picture

Exactly! In order to see another black person at my agency I have to look in the mirror.

Guest's picture

Black interns--that's a good one. You White folks in advertising sho' am funny!

well, great way to scare off the poor kids... You know, most of the newbies think that the industry is about farting ideas without having any hard time. They shall know the fact of the industry: only the strongest will survive! (or the most masochist)

Oh ... whip marks. Thanks for telling me. I thought people were stabbing them in the back, which is more suitable for staffers than interns. Ho hum. No one will wear these out of the office.

i don;t think these shirts are racist at all. Slavery has been going on around the world for thousands of years, why does it only offend blacks? If it offends damn near almost every culture, it;s fair game. Lighten up, don't; be so angry.

Guest's picture

You don't think this is racist AT ALL? Why don't you just type: "Hi, I'm a White racist idiot who has no respect for history or the pain OTHER people's ancestors have suffered. I also don't understand or care to understand how slavery and other violations of basic human rights keeps generations, upon generations, upon generations of the affected from being educated, valuing education, owning land, accumulating wealth, and perhaps worst of all -- from dreaming big. I'm just an ignorant fuck living in my own happy little world of picket fences, butterflies, jelly beans, and guilt-free white folks who JUST DON'T GET IT!"

Angry? Angry doesn't even BEGIN to express how ignorant mouth-breathers like YOU make me feel.

A.P, while it is important to respect the past, and to value the lessons which humanity has learnt (or should have learnt) from it's mistakes, it is very near impossible to move forward into a world of true EQUALITY when people continue to live the past everyday. i hope to live in a world someday when race is irrelevant to judgement, employment and opportunity, but if everyone was to have an opinion like yours, then this prayer is almost useless.

besides, are you not being a little racist there yourself.... that was quite a little generalisation you made.

Guest's picture

Maybe if they let the interns do some of the creative work, things would be alot better.

Lame

Anyone who would willingly walk around wearing that shirt deserves to have his ass whipped.

is torturing interns in agency suppose to be a good thing?

torturing interns is always a good thing.

Guest's picture

Are you kidding me? They must not have a human resources department whatsoever. I am disgusted by this, although not totally surprised at the racist imagery being used here. And to all of you people saying its not so bad, Imagine if the images were reminiscent of concentration camps with swastikas galore, because they want to promote interns who concentrate.... Yeah right, If we had as many effective lobbyists as Jews do, this would never have been released. It's offensive, and frankly pretty disturbing to me as a "Black" female advertising student. Makes me dread the thought of working for the kinds of sickos who think this is funny.

StarlaY's picture 308 pencils

Excuse me but slavery is not a notion that takes its origins from America and Black people... For thousands of years, from Egypt to Rome, from Anatolia to India people had been made slaves and had lashes on their backs when they didn't obey their "masters". It's a humanity crime yes, but please don't make it all about black people. This ad has a humorist approach to internship and yes although nobody tortures interns physically, there's a mental torture side of it. nothing to be offended or getting disgusted.

Some people are WAY too uptight!

Guest's picture

Of course the black people should let this one go.

I'm working on a nice DM piece that includes a gas mask. Just to show how efficient german manufacturing was during WWII. Get over it they say!

Guest's picture

Jesus got whipped. So...should Jews get pissed about this, too?

Guest's picture

38 year old interns. it would be funny if wasn't true in some places. this really is an ever degrading and disgraceful line of work.
