WTF?
An ad agency? Self Promo?
Then what you are doing for your clients?

ivan's picture

I don't get your WTF. Agency's do self promo ads all the time:

Guest's picture

Agreed Ivan.
It's great.

Guest's picture

pretty stupid

ivan's picture

Please be more professional with your comment. Thank you!

Guest's picture

this is so... stupid kewl!! ya!!

Guest's picture

Not so bad...better than lots of others agencies "self-promo" ideas.
But, i believe that the best self promo is the work agencies do for clients.

phildesignart's picture 243 pencils

Fair enough. This is just a way to get people to the site to see the work. I am not saying it is brilliant but seeing some of the other agency promos I do think it is ok.

Guest's picture

it's good idea. i like it.

Guest's picture

is mailing fireworks legal?

Guest's picture

that's what i asked myself =P is it legal??

anyway... it's a good idea!

Guest's picture

Hehe, next marketing ploy, anthrax in the mail… oh sorry that’s so lame, so done before.

-Serge @ http://www.tvadfad.com/

Guest's picture

it's as bad as when the cow comes home drunk and in a bad mood, saying: "boom, I saw someone's work. it was crap."

Guest's picture

a little forced, don't you think?

Guest's picture

They're trying to create a memorable experience, a talking point. So when the people who received it talk to their business buddies, they'll say "our ad agency sent us firecrackers for Christmas."

However, I think there are other more effective means to get the point across. Say something meaningful other than "HEY, REMEMBER US???? WE'RE STILL HERE!!!! HERE ARE SOME EXPLOSIVES, HAHA IT'S A CUTE JOKE, GIVE US YOUR MONEY!!!"

whitespace's picture 2055 pencils

I find this to be quite boring, especially since the firecrackers doesn't work. Might as well have sent out party poppers with safety warnings. Cheaper than a USD.

Guest's picture

hey i think this idea is very old. we done same idea before. anyway congratulations to bino thomma. but where is jessan and vinod? they can do better works.

Guest's picture

A lot of agencies do self promo. It's a necessity. But these often end up as the toughest briefs.
Being too close to the product tends to lessen your objectivity.

Now, here's the thing. I find this one quite mundane. Not an agency I'd be excited about if this DM piece were my only basis.
I find the "10 years of blah blah. 5 great blah blah. One blah." format tired and should be taken out back and shot.

Over 3000 years of civilization
1000 times this "countdown" method of writing has been done. Maybe more.
2 times it was considered clever
0 times it should be tried again.

Guest's picture

send this to all LIS investors. because they need some thing without paying money to celebrate the new year.

Guest's picture

ice idea and execution

Guest's picture

I hate it when people say that something has been done before. Ideas are only new combinations drawn out of existing material. Please understand that. Great work Lal.

lightall28's picture 22 pencils

Bravo there

lightall28's picture 22 pencils

Every time I take a peek at the comments, I wonder: don't these know-all guest commentators read the submission? From what I read, these are MOCK firecrackers sent out for NEW YEARS'S. So where does the explosives angle (or the anthrax insinuation) come from?
A good DM; not out of this world, but definitely one that worth making to the front pages at Ads of the World.

binunk's picture 211 pencils

Not at all.

Guest's picture

i really dont understand why people go so mad with criticism. when you put up something here, we are supposed to say our comments about the work. so, all the stuff about guest commentators doing this and that are unwarrented for. we are guests and we feel like commenting. whoever doesn't like it, you just f*@k off. (all this for the great guest commentators' league)

about the stuff displayed here, it is plain ordinary. i think even the analogy is not working here. we have more reasons to celebrate, so wish you a happy new year. where is the connect here? and some big bang ideas sonce some year for the topping. can any of the big guys up there who are defending this idea tell me that?

the right connect would be (thouhg stupid still) we have more reasons to celebrate, so do our clients and associates. so you can also have a new year teaming up with us. but that this is not coming through here.

and the ordinary fire cracker doesn't imply a big bang. they gives a series of small bangs. the word big bang implies one big explosion, like say a dynamite or something.

Guest's picture

Show decency in ur comment plz

lightall28's picture 22 pencils

A New Year with a series of big bangs! How, I would've loved it. LOL

Guest's picture

Sick. Sick to the core. It seems that crackers become a self promotion tool every season in India. This one, if anything, is a cracker that fails to go off.

lightall28's picture 22 pencils

Hey, are YOU one of the recepients? Then you are likely to be working in that agency's neighbourhood. A case of sour grapes, or failed explosions in this case, perhaps? Cheers!

Guest's picture

i dont like it..

Guest's picture

why do all foreign guerilla ideas get laid out on black? it does a disservice to the look of the reprint

Guest's picture

Foreign? Buddy, any stuff outta your own country is foreign. Sh how come you doin' some claim on Ivan's site?

Guest's picture

Congrats Mr. Lal & Bino for presenting Jelitta on global panorama...

Guest's picture

At last, a kerala based agency, came out with an excellent work. Ideal way to promote an agency. In my 10 yrs career in the media industry, I havn`t found any other agency based in kerala doing this. Good work Jelitta. Nice logo....

Guest's picture

that is news. 10 years in the media industry and not finding an agency in kerala doign a self promo. well, ask jelitta people, they do it every year. so do other numerous small agencies in kerala. i remember a small agency doing a self promo after winning a deadline contest conducted by the cochin ad club!! no big deal, brother, no big deal.

NatalieM's picture 1693 pencils

Wow! You can send explosives in the mail in India? That's some serious stuff.

lightall28's picture 22 pencils

Is this Natalie Mansour? Nats, as detailed in yellow fonts, these are mock (replica) firecrackers.

Guest's picture

Bravo Lal & Bino
Good work...vykittu enthaa paruvaadi??

Guest's picture

Good Job Lalji & Bino Thomaaa
Vykithentha paruvaadi???

Guest's picture

I happen to be one of the recipients of the Jelitta New Year Gift Pack. I should confess that my first reaction was that of a shock on seeing the crackers and other stuff. Then I realized what a brilliant idea it was. Very different and very out of the box. Kudos to Jelitta - Regards, Pratheesh Balakrishnan, HPCL

One thing I have noticed, is that nearly every agency self promotion is really bad.
But then that makes sense - surely it's only the crap agencies, doing the crap work, that are desperate to get clients? And how do they get their clients (or not)? By doing shit self promo's.

Guest's picture

A.H., of the biggest order: get your punctuation right! For starters, it should be 'promos' WITHOUT an apostrophe.
And, why not post your name instead of hiding behind a Guest Commenter log.

P.S.
Man, do some cream-in-the-pants stuff instead of whining like a rabbid stray!
