Flashback Book Facebook App

November 2010

Bouygues Télécom asked us at DDB Paris to come up with an idea to launch their facebook platform. They wanted us to create something that would go beyond using your profile picture in a funny way, or pranking your friends with a small joke. We decided to look at the way we use facebook and found that even though we use the social networking site everyday, we forget our favorite moments we share online. So we created an app that could change that, and keep your facebook, in a book. Facebook ads engaged people to participate in the creation of their books and receive a printed copy of their statuses and photos. You could chose up to 10 friends to add into your book, as well as the desired timeframe, whether it be your birthday, wedding, or from the very beginning of your profile. After only two days we received 15.000 fans and the limited edition of 1.000 books were gone in only an hour.

Reminds me of 'A life on Facebook':

It's a nice idea but I don't really see how it'll lead to sales or anything like that.

sorry, that's just a stupid remark. great campaigns such as 'Gatorade Replay' and 'whopper sacrifice' aren't pushing sales so it's bad advertising?

think again.

Jack Mancer - when he said he was going to collect pencils, they thought he meant One show awards. He didn't.

stupid is the one using his brains at the service of companies such as bouygues (company that built bunkers in irak for hussein in the 90's)! prostituting intelligence at the advantage of some investors is pure nonsense, so watch your tongue you poor victim of the system!

@Jack : It is much more a reputation thing that Bouygues is trying to build.

They are the 3rd telecom operator and always seen as the "small and inovative one". That's why I really like their siganture "bringing communications to life".

Great idea. It's all about adding (and preserving) to the users experience + content.

How Much trees for a life book ?

Then How much for 200+ Millions lives ?

Keep it as a concept... or as a virtual book !

I think it's something that Facebook would be very interested in; wonder how much approval was sought/needed to use their design template. They've no claim on uploaded content, but I suspect they wouldn't be too keen on a 3rd party co-opting their IP for gain. That said, it's a fine thing, and especially as a gift to those parents who don't use FB and wonder what all the fuss about these funfangled computers are.

I agree with the waste of paper remark. If you feel like facebook is such a memorable event that needs to be printed out in hardcopy as a reminder of the past you are a sad, lonely person.

Totally agree with you

Preserving what was never meant to be preserved seems like a useless idea to me. And indeed a waste of paper.

You're missing the point. BRINGING COMMUNICATIONS TO LIFE. It's conceptual. They're not going to print 500 million books.

Imagine how much energy we'd save if half a billion people weren't on Facebook an hour or more per day. What? My point isn't relevant? Neither is yours. Why make any ads at all? We're hurting the trees. Right?

Get a clue.

"Bringing communications to life" is as close to conceptual as my great-grandmothers shoes are to its ancestors' udders.

There's a way to defend your work. And you're way away from it, if you don't mind me saying.'s picture

Everyone can get one, not just the 1000 firsts ;)

The return on the investment for buying Facebook fans from has been unbelievable! I purchased 5000 Facebook fans and started seeing tons of visitors coming from facebook to my site and some of them turned out to be regular customers. The fans that Socialkik delivered were 100% real and they're quite active on our page wall. They're real because they don't join the page unless they check and like the page after receiving the suggestion from
