I saw this Economist idea way before that Brazilian ad. Just because something is posted on Ads of the World 1st doesn't mean it was produced first. Besides this seems to be a real balloon whilst the Brazilian thing was a print ad. Heard this won Gold at the One Show.
I give the Economist all the respect. I think this is the best idea they've ever produced.
Never seen a conceptual balloon before. Amazing and I wish I did it.

Is it possible to tell the story with just one balloon shot? I think that will look better (visually and storytelling).
Used this idea for a regional Australian University Open Day... in 1997.
And THAT was in homage to an Oz 'ínflated egos' print ad. Hmmm.
