as an ad person I get it, but i'm thinking rarely would anybody else make the connection.

It may have something to do with color scheme, the b/w versus the red crane.

... its already been done...

Good point klaussnow, perhaps what you are almost suggesting could improve it; make the "tricep rod" the same red as the crane so you get the connection.
Overall this is great student work, the black guy doing the weights & the garbage truck awesome work...well done Michael Griffith, for a student it's nice stuff.

The only one that works is the first one, thinking that the cranes won't move. The other two seem like a regular billboard, you can't see the action.

Think it for a while.
Then, in anytime, it will come to your mind as an idea.

It's like a modern colossus thingo. I love the idea of playing around with scale. I don't think it's actually necessary to see the action to make the connection - people will get it and appreciate it regardless.

I'm here doing this, but feel I should be there doing that. But to do that, I have to be doing this. Does this make sense or do I have to explain that?

would they really place and ad of that size on a building under construction? wouldn't it get in the way of work?
