A sign in San Francisco, starting Monday, identifies approaching Mini Cooper drivers by using a signal from a radio chip embedded in their key fobs. Read more
I did check the details, but this is the slipperly slope to the future. If every car is chipped, we could have billboards that give us messages based on whatever. 'Hello Brando, you're running low on vaseline" for example. Just find it as a test, very disturbing.
Copywriter dude, just hate really intrusive advertising that uses your personal details - and when will we start focussing the message so much that you can't escape it. Just a thought.
Exactly. Had it not been voluntary, I'd say it was incredibly intrusive. But they're giving people who want to see their names on a billboard the chance to see it. I bet money those drivers have taken every single friend they have past it in their minis.
Smart idea, and also smart to do it at just a few locations to make sure there isn't a huge backlash.
Yeah but drunk dave has a point, if you refused to fill in the form it wouldn't really matter, it would end up like emails, you get all sorts of spam anyway, even if you never tick the box or fill out the form.
Drunk Dave is right; it could be invasive. This isn't but the method itdself would end up being so at some point.
i think this is cool.
id be pretty moved by seeing my name up there by surprise.
only problem is...if im already driving a mini, does this really make much sense?
to the other drivers (the people we should be talking to) will only see random names and it wont mean anything to them.
excellent movie. I was just watching the future weapons last night Discovery Channel
"IT'S THE WAY OF THE FUTURE" " SHOW ME THE BLUE PRINT" " SHOW ME THE BLUE PRINT" " SHOW ME THE BLUE PRINT"
the billboards have generic copy thats relevant to the target demo that is displayed either when; there are no programmed mini fobs around, or after the cycle of three personalized ads has completed for said fobs.
so, it works for both the survey participators and the general public at the same time.
in my eye, its another great addition to the multi-pronged mini-cult ad front.
mini is a specialist on doing some cool print campaigns and spots but...hey i think it's still not very personal what they show on those billboards..and yes i know the strategy...but when i've seen this on adhunt some days ago i thought this isn't to good, kind of as if they were trying so badly to stay subcultural and hip hop...Nope, doesn't work for me either.
Definately futurisristic.....
But I am gonna wait to see more of these,,,,
Well I am thinking,,, how better could this be used...
Definately a two edged sword though....
Hail IVAN.....
I would say very neat idea and also this portends the future of advertising. You can't ignore it and you will be part of it soon, whether you like it or not. Neat.
I say if you don't have anything to hide who cares. Now if you are the ENEMY OF THE STATE - "movie" then you can't hide. I think people who has hidden agendas are afraid of this kind of stuff.
It's scary and cool at the same. These kind of 'ad's that find you' approach COULD be really effective, when and IF done appropriately but if done wrong could be extremely off putting. abit too Orwellian for me. personally.

What a truly awful, invasive idea. This is when advertising goes bad, like the milk in my fridge that's three days old.
DD, check out the details, this isn't really that invasive because it is voluntary.

But DD, I am low on vaseline. Who told you? Was it this "chip" they speak of....

i'm right with you. I think that personalized advertising shit is scary. it's ads that take away way too much personal / public space.

Agree!!! There's noyhing better than advertising "made specially for you" like this one.
FER.
i thought of the same exact movie!!!!!!
we may not like personalized ads, but that's the future...
it actually scares me... it's almost like we're being spied on constanly.

For those of you refusing to embrace the future, I feel for you. You are going to be left behind. It is a great idea.

But you already live in a police state, so it's too late for you. The rest of us still have rights :)
Police are good, they will protect you from R.U.F. I can sleep well at night.
