Your rating: None Average: 7.2 (17 votes)

You get a letter with an unbranded CD and a post it letting you know all the software is on the CD and the serials are enclosed. When opening the CD you get a surprise Windows blue screen of death and the effect of the monitor shutting down. Then you get a message from Microsoft, that you are lucky time this is just a DM, but next time your machine can crash for real if you use bootleg software.

Exactly. They could have saved themselves the trouble of burning a new CD, and instead simply shipped one of the usual windows CDs.Better results guaranteed!

people you need to get with the times. windows hasnt crashed on me in like 2 years. programs sometimes crash because i try to do too much but never BSOD or crash.

anyway. the product here is good because it might make you feel unsafe if you dont have a licensed version and might scare you enough to buy one. but the seasoned pirates know better :0

There are pirates who are also proud of what they do, and won't give defective stuff. I believe they are also trying to create trust within their communities, a so-called 'honor among thieves' gig.

Aren't virtual Robin Hoods more frightening?

This is sorta like telling a guy his uncle just died -- then when he starts getting emotional, you burst out laughing and let him in on the joke.

This direct mail will definitely accomplish its goal. I'd call it "Scared Straight for Software Users."

Ha-ha! I live in Russia. Almost all people in our country use hacked M$'s software and feel good. I do it for about 10 years and know that cheap unlicensed version works as well as expensive licensed version. I got great LOL reading about this stupid action.

I'd be too scared to put the CD into my PC - can't trust anything anymore. It would've gone straight in the bin.

And guess what, this mailer won the Wunderman Dubai team a Gold Lion as Cannes :-)

Dubai's starting to roack in creativity - but miles to go before we sleep, and promises to keep.

Heh... Sound like Microsoft thought the blue screen only come out from piracy CD???

the outlook is not 'inviting'

It's poor judgement for Microsoft to embrace an ad featuring BSOD. It's not even cute.

Not all software are perfect especially when a new version is released and today's technology we can copy or download any software we like in the net. That is why we are still fighting for the piracy to stop or to be lessen. The idea in the ad is very dull in today's modern age we can use email or let them burn the CD to copy the software and pay online.
