Normally I'd be with you on this one, but I have to disagree here. A company like McDonald's that has money to spend on creativity and brand awareness isn't worried about the actual value of an ad like this. For the cost of running one of these ads, a small coffee shop could probably put out two to four times as many (because I guarantee the ad agency isn't charging $10/hr for someone to remove some of the coffee each day).
There comes a point where paying for creativity and branding are not worth it for the small guy. I think McDonald's should have spent their money on expanding the reach of this campaign as opposed to making a few people at bus stops smile every day. Think about it... there's nothing fancy to the message here. FREE COFFEE UNTIL MAY 3rd AT MCDONALDS. It sells itself.
