Finland Post: Jean Sibelius
Stamps have always been part of the collective memory. One ultimate patriotic moment for every Finnish person is the final scene from the movie 'The Unknown Soldier´, where the Finlandia hymn is playing in the background when the war was finally over. Jean Sibelius, the composer of this moving hymn, appeared on a stamp in 1945. See this stamp and the entire collection at the jubilee exhibition at the Post museum.
(Jean Sibelius (1865 – 1957), a Finnish composer of classical music and one of the most notable composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His music played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity.)

this was cool when the truman show did it 8 years ago. 328,987 ripoffs later, i think it's run its course.
the photo mosaic was done long before the truman show poster.
the technique used in these ads isn't a photo mosaic.
nice retro look, catchy
the truman show made the technique famous. whether or not anyone used it in advertising before that, who knows. replacing photos with stamps, which are essentially photos anyway, doesn't make it at all different.
if you don't see the difference you should have a closer look.
a photo mosaic can be created within seconds, with one mouse click (with the right program / filter).
the technique used in these ads is much more elaborate. it's a mixture of collage and mosaic.
both techniques have been done before many times in the last 2000-3000 years but these posters still seem quite fresh to me.
kudos to the art directors, especially to pia pitkanen
it's very similar visually. beyond that, there's no concept behind it. it works fine as design, i guess, if all you want is a pretty picture. but there's not much of an idea. and i find it boring to look at. as i've seen too many similar visuals before.

i like the ad, but disagree that it is "much more elaborate" than a photo mosaic.
