Air pollution: Chicago

Air pollution: Chicago
Your rating: None Average: 7.8 (13 votes)

Chicago is plagued by air pollution. Don't just lie there. Contact your alderman at 311.

These are images of a guerilla marketing component from a campaign designed to gain public support in an effort to reduce the pollution released by particular powerplants in Chicago. The shape and text was created by power-washing filthy sidewalks using a large stencil form.

Very nice idea to powerwash the sidewalk. I think the images are Photoshopped, but I may be wrong. Do you guys see that the font used for the Chicago campaign is Chicago?

Great consideration of environment.

I don't follow your logic. How is using the GROUND a great consideration of environment when you're talking about AIR pollution?

This is a great idea, but I'm pretty sure Ivan is right. The edges look way too clean, especially at the notches in the pavement (or whatever they're called).

i've seen this done before on a UK show called 'dragons den' where people pitch business ideas to a panel
of judges. he didn't get the funding he was after, so its nice to see someone is doing it. peace

Ivan, that was the first thing that jumped out at me too. The font to too clean to have been stencled on uneven pavement too.

I also wonder about the wisdom of spray paint used to talk about pollution. Doesn't that just add to the problem?

Don't you think that if a power-washer were strong enough to remove years of pollution from a sidewalk that it would certainly tear to shreds any type of tape, mask, frisk, etc. that anyone tried to use for such a sharp image (edge)?

Photoshop is my best friend, and in the right hands it can fool the world.

there are plenty of things you could build the body stencil out of that would hold up (MDF, sheet metal, etc), but the text definately isn't stencilled.

i power-washed too many fences and houses in my house painting days. the photos look legit to me. now how they got the font to lay down...

I contacted Jesse Freese who created these ads and they are, indeed, Photoshopped concept comps, but the real campaign will be starting in early June.
