a similar idea was done in Holland last year by selexyz bookstores

http://werkvanthijsenmarco.blogspot.com/2010/06/blog-post_24.html

The idea is that every use of media is a new chapter in the story of selexyz. There was outdoor, plastic bags, instore stuff, receipts, radio (audio-book story) etc. Each with a nice story to read to stimulate reading. Not only while you are waiting but everywhere, anytime.

If I was waiting for someone who was running late, and they sent me an SMS story to read, I'd punch them in the face.

So sad to be such a bad attitude person. If some one sent me an SMS story to read while i waiting for them. I would be smile cause at least they feel sorry to be late and worries about i getting bored. This can be an other creative and nice way to say sorry to keep someone waiting. So goooooood

I wouldn't read an SMS, but then again I might... who knows? Always inundated with unsolicited ads for this, and that thing, so my first reaction would be to ignore wordy sms'... as a reader, and a writer, I source my short stories from the web, and being picky, I always go back to favourite writers, but I know I'd most definitely appreciate the thought, and the clever thinking behind this ad campaign!

Damn, this is good - people don't read all that much in most parts of Southeast Asia - and by the time they come around to it, they've probably forgotten the pleasure.

this would be perfect in brazil! i believe the average person here doesn't have much reading habits (but should) and has to constantly wait in endless lines ...

This is done many years ago by a bookstore at an airport. They've printed segments of books from their shops onto the back of boarding passes. They also did it on the back of receipts and other media.
