I am working on a online poker room ad to be placed in a poker magazine (March issue). This is the best ad we came up with so far. Let me know what you think...
Way too much to read. Get rid of all the stuff and concentrate on one simple message only.
You need to take a step back, pretend its a hair gel ad or something, how would you be interested in reading that hair gel ad? What would they need to do to get you to stop and read their ad?
its easy to forget sometimes that we are making ads for the consumer, not the client. the client thinks the ad is for them, but its not... its for me. You need to get in my head and figure out what is going to get me to read your ad.
thx for the comments.. i do agree with both ivan and you. I am trying to do something as simple as possible and of course with the customer in mind. Is just quite hard to get the message across and have the customer remember it or get them to read the ad.
The idea behind this ad is that is better to play online that in a casino. I quess I will work on cleaning it up or come with something, as you said, to grab the attention of the reader. The ad will be publish in a poker magazine so I feel safe using technical terms….
Another idea was to use a clow face (or some other face) behind a laptop with the copy: "Working on your poker face? Play Online." It’s more clean but I'm not sure if it'll grab the attention of the customer…
I kind of like your poker face line - but it shouldn't be about working on your poker face, it should be about not having a poker face. Play online.
I agree. Excellent selling point.
thx guys... I'll do something with "Poker face missing? Play Online." or "If 'poker face' is not in you dictionary, then play online."... Well at least I have a lead. I'll show once I do something.
again thx a lot guys...
> it should be about not having a poker face
A poker face is a face that doesn't give any information away, like what you're feeling and thinking, so playng online where people can't see you gives you the ultimate poker face. (just seems so obvious that it works the other way though -- you won't be able to read their thoughts either!)
That might be an interesting take on it. Maybe showing someone in front of a computer that is obviously thrilled and then down in the corner showing the cursor over the raise button. Then have a line about not having a poker face won't be a problem.
Just a quick thought. I know doing the photography can be the hard part.
A farside (I think it was a farside) cartoon springs to mind. The heading was something like 'the various emotions of a dog'. There was a cartoon illustration of a dog's face, side on, looking funny like dogs do with tongue lolling out of the side of it's mouth and looking all expectant and stupid, repeated multiple times, exactly the same drawing each time, each with a different emotion written next to it; angry, scared, happy, etc. It was funny.
If you get some kind of icon representing you on these online gambling things you could do similer.
[the icon] don't even understand the rules
[same icon] best hand possible
[same icon] just made terrible mistake, ...
This would be most appealing to newcomers I reckon.
