Indian Culture has a ritual where married women worship banyan tree and pray for their husband's long life. With trees disappearing so fast, soon Indian women will have to look for a substitute, which is electrical lamppost in this case. (We cannot abolish this custom as it may mean contempt of our culture.) So, the only way we could save our culture is by planting more trees.

A very big WTF?
I'm thinking, WTF...'Why The Fuck' did this get so many comments, it's less than ordinary.
davosk Where the F*** are you from?
greece, ryt.... so jus shut your f***ed up mouth and open your shitty brain.
do u know abt the indian culture...no.... so why the f*** do u comment.
at many places in India the trees are worshipped, wherein women take rounds of the trees enchanting hymns.
so DAVOSK....its better u learn some and then comment.
as for the ad...its not really grt.
Davosk... i hope u got a f***ing gud answer.
we guys r here to comment on works so that people learn from it and not to abuse the creator and the creation.
Hey univited guest, if you've been around this site long enough, which you haven't obviously, WTF is not an offensive thing, it's just a smart arse way of saying "I don't understand this". Thanks for informing me of this cultural fact which I was ignorant of.
NOW, go F**K YOURSELF and piss off you C**T.
You'd look pretty funny eating corn on the cob.................... with no f******G teeth.
why would anyone worship trees??? dont tell me its coz they provide food... coz you'll have to worship every second thing including Mcdonalds n KFC
Why are you commenting in a degrading way? You don't have to share the same beliefs to appreciate art.
If you want to take it the way you know, I'll put myself in the shoes of an Indian and express my disgust towards how Americans worship boobs and dicks all over television.
That's not a say thing to say to you, now is it?
Critique the art, the execution, not whether they pray for cows or trees. This ad wasn't created because YOU are its target market, it was created because, hello. Humans have different cultures, ideologies and so different stuff appeal to them.
Anywayz. I love it. And no, You don't have to be Indian to get the idea.
Why would anyone worship trees????
it provides, organize & maintain our life like mother. And MOTHER IS A NEXT TO THE GOD. They do not provide us food.... Noooooooooo... it provides us grains, oxygen, to maintain our life. Not only life but our civilization is purely depend on it. It is our true God who saves us more than another God.
I think now u don't need more explanation.
Thank you.
Prabin
Thanks uninvited guest. I really appreciate the way you defended our effort.
Try defending it yourself, this is advertising.
no need to fall down his level davosk let him be.
when you place work with religious or ethnic connotations in an international forum it can sometimes be confusing..
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Priyanka U seem like a good creative person.I ve been seeing a lot of your ads lately.Nice.Keep it up.
Intelligent ads are the need of the hour.
...
It is very sweet of uninvited guest to go one step ahead and explain about the culture etc. Hence I was just appreciating the gesture, being thankful.
We have a ritual where married women worship the banyan tree and pray for their husband's long life. With trees disappearing so fast, soon Indian women will have to look for a substitute, which is electrical lamppost in this case. (We cannot abolish this custom as it may mean contempt of our culture.) So, saving trees could actually help us save our culture.
We Indians are extremely proud of our rich heritage and can go to any extinct to protect our culture. Hence this route will appeal to most Indians and motivate them to plant more trees.
Hope I have cleared all your doubts. BTW I don't believe advertising is about defending yourself or your ads.
Hony ! you have explained so metculously.Fantabulous
All things said and done, I quite like the art.
Thanks 'twelve_noon' for your suggestion. As per your advice I have added the required explanation. Hope it makes more sense now.
your comments 'twelve_noon'???????????
all things explained and straightened out, I think it's a pretty nice idea and a nice execution that would never work outside india. Still it's nice and what the heck some diversity never hurt anyone, did it...
hehehehe
Thanks Davosk.
thanks Davosk. from 'WTF' to 'nice art', you have come a long way. I am glad.
hey Davosk u got the idea behind the ad.
Mission accomplished.
as for priyanka...keep the gud wrk rolling..... cheers.....
I got it after the explaination, I thought the art was nice from the first viewing. A successful ad needs no explaination. BTW, you need to control yourself there sonny, perhaps some anger management.
hehehehe...I agree good ads don't need any explanation!
I am waiting for Ivan's opinion
Joaquin de Camble Guamble
Is a good idea, but very very local, so i've learn that a very very good idea has to be understand it for anyone, anywere, so, i'm afraid the idea is good, but not relevant for people out of India. The art is good, but look the girls, one of them is very very white, maybe you can work on that contrast or light. cheers!

I am a copywriter...an ideator, not a graphic designer. (If you see the credits, you will know) & I believe my art partner has done a marvelous job here. Thank you parvej.
Hello,
I like the way of thinking.
But if you see practically, result of ad is not that much because this is sub use of trees.
This is not focusing on the problem what exactly happen when there is no tree.
(Still women alive.) May be common people take it lightly?
About the color- it looks cool just like noting is happen. May be increasing red makes more effective. That what I am thinking.
Amit
If i have to justify my ad...i may say there are more than 10000000000 ads trying to show what will happen in absence of tree. Hence one more ad saying the same will have no impact. Sub use of tree is almost ignored, which is equally important in country like India. If you see television, importance of Tulsi etc. has increased like nobody s business. Infact I was thinking of extending the campaign using Tulsi situation.
Women are alive, but soon their husband might die, as they are not worshiping banyan tree any longer. n for an Indian woman it is a big deal. N I believe we have to play the mind game if you have to induce people to do things that they don't want to do.
Red colour is just too predictable. This green gives it a serious tone in a subtle way. at the same time it has connotations with tree.
Anyways its my justification. i buy your point. thanks amit.
Let's plant more trees. So people can stop making ads like these that require such long and stupid arguments.
Ms. Aanth,
BBDH, Vietnam
Hey very nice thought!
l like the thought but i think execution is lacking somewhere
I am an Indian. A hardcore culture walla. A rather decent communicator. And i think this layout didn't deserve so much attention. Davosk was, in all his ignorance, absolutely right. I wonder if the multitude you are talking about will get it at all. So who have you made this ad for? Don't give us shit about our culture.Stop talking like the VHP and BJP. If you want to see a good "save trees" as go here: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/wwf_tree?size=_original
The idea is ridiculous. The execution is that of an illiterate adguy/gal (for god sake look at the photo shopped women). WTF, loud n clear, is absolutely the thing to say in cases like these? WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf hehehehehehe.
Looks like it's back where it began, full circle. I don't think any trees were saved as a result of this ad being canned or arse licked.
Here's another ignorant comment from me. Why is that a devils' fork stuck it the ground? Hahaha.
Priyanka, what about making a new ad?
Jaggy, MICA Ahmedabad
Though i have posted several ads after this one, people refuse to get over it. We have thought of extending this concept...save trees, save culture is a controvertial thought if not powerful one. hence i am sure people will notice it.
We may have to go for a shoot, n it may take some time...but people, beware...we are coming back with an extention of the same thought.
PRIYANKAAAAAAA.....where are the extensions. We all like to see them.

it's very great idea, work bit on art work.
Pro: nice visual and idea
Con: only works for localized place, in this case India
"Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius."-Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
"The creative person wants to be a know-it-all. He wants to know about all kinds of things: ancient history, nineteenth-century mathematics, current manufacturing techniques, flower arranging, and hog futures..."- Carl Ally, ad exec
sorry man.. bad idea, very bad artdirection, they seems fine and happy with the situation, but mainly very bad artdirection u need to work more on the visual
hey priyanka.. though the concept is good but still u'v followed a "safe route".. tell me one thing.. if all the trees hav b'n cut off, y d women are volving around "an electric pole". putting a tradition part was good to connect it with emotins but still the logic is missing.. hope u'l try n do better next time..:)
I like the idea.
The art direction I don't.
Maybe if the electric lampost was on the ground rather than on stone it would be a bit stronger.
Idea is fantastic!!!
but the look and feel of this festival (Vat savitri) wot we say in India,
is entirely missing. The bridal make up of the women is missing.
This festival is very happening..... that particular puch of festivity is
missing.....
hey! Priyanka Sabnis.
i saw and read the comments who has u got and i m still loughing. What is this bulsht now i m feelng i m in a stock market and wathching fight of bull and bear. Ok leave it. i m cmpletly not agree with this idea we r losing tree but we r not mad. y we'll worshipp an electric poll.
i know we are crazy for worship but not mad yaar.
so u can show only platform or a big hole center of platfrm, or u can show a artificl tree (any tree) and one thing more dat women r lookng very happy with d situation.....
hv u heard the indian (urdu slogan)dat is like dis "paristhis ki aadat to boot ko bhi khuda bana deta hai"
so if u r agree with dis slogan den electric poll is ok or not den should ................................
saan
Thank you all for putting across your point loud and clear.
Mr. Sanjeet Sanyal, I don't know what you do but I am expecting you to be either an account servicing executive or a client. At times you should just see the essence of the ad
I know for sure that even if we don't have trees, we will never worship electric pole. And that’s exactly the reason why I have used it in my ad. While we were brainstorming we had actually considered women revolving around furniture or other things that are made from trees but then we rejected it ourselves...thinking as this seems impossible, it will attract more attention. and I think we have succeeded in doing so.
"...expecting you to be either an account servicing executive or a client." He's not a copywriter, that's for sure.
very very local idea...
Is being local bad? (especially in the 2nd most populated country, India)
good thought!
but think cannes don't think ABBY! :)
Thank you Viresh! Point noted.
(On a philosophical note) I was thinking of 'inducing people to plant more trees'.
hey killer work priyanka! i cnt think of a better way 2 reach out 2 indians wid this message.

hey i m here once again after a long time. ok no problem if u think ur ad is great. but just stop and think ur subject is "SAVE TREE" and den think once again. people wants a strong visual with strong bodycopy. all d people who is here and passing d ideas not cuts trees so they can understand but those people who actually cuts trees can't get u and one thing more dont be happy dat u got lots of comments. d only reason dat is, u r girl. and i think u know better humen tendency. u can see really great and better ad but few people notice dem............ nyway if u r happy. dont thik dat wat people says. "always listen to ur heart"
changezi
hey everybody u guys need to see the ad in the indian context. and i see it working really fantastically. but ur ad looks weak in terms of art direction if the ritual is one of festivity it should have the look of it and other point to be noted is that women clearly look to have been placed there around the pole it doesn't have the originality i mean look at the lighting that looks completely of the other environment don't u think so priyanka. sorry one more thing i forgot to point out is the pole doesn't clearly seem to be made of wood. idea is grt but execution needs hell lots of improvement.

Hey Sanyal...please grow up. we are here to showcase our work and thats it. People here, think much above sexual biases.

Very good concept an execution. the tradition in india are very close to nature.(trees, birds, fruits etc.) and your ad shows the irresistable decline in both the layer ! so if we dont save the trees we have to compromise with our tradition too. thats my interpritation. n ways, very good observation!
thank you people...i am amazed tht the ad is still around...

"The creative person wants to be a know-it-all. He wants to know about all kinds of things: ancient history, nineteenth-century mathematics, current manufacturing techniques, flower arranging, and hog futures..."- Carl Ally, ad exec
it is clear to all over world.i think no ..but good idea execution good ..
Amazing how much this "discussion" brandishes how little we really care to know about things outside our borders.
I hope a lot of you never have to work on international campaigns.
I have to congratulate you priyanka_sabnis, I think you're the first one in the exhibition to get enough comments to require a second page. This is the only thing in the forum I find comment worthy today. Bravo.
Amazing. Apparently we're so NA-centric that we'd say an ad is "local" because it only "works" in a country the freaking size of INDIA.
It's a gorgeous, thoughtful ad. Learn from it, people.
Although large, India is still only one place, with one culture. Of course it'll only work locally.
Anyways, main reason I'm posting is to post on a legendary thread! It's pretty old though, nothing uber controversial, so I have no idea why it's still alive. Probably Davosk bumping it as he wants the last comment! Oh by the way there are two other threads in AotW which are longer than this and have reached two pages. Fish Farts and the Daz Whitepower one.

he he he...here comes the long awaited speech...It deserves one for sure. It is a record in itself for all the posts on adsoftheworld.
so here it goes...
I am speechless…I was really not expecting this so soon…but this victory is a team effort, I could have never got it alone. So, I would want to take this opportunity and thank all those people who were a part of this...
I would like to thank...
1. Davosk, for being there through out. Through all thiks and thins. No matter what people said…he stayed around and contributed in his own way.
2. Uninvited guest, for defending my ad and for giving me his/ her sincere opinion
3. Ivan, for giving me such a great forum. (unfortunately he chose to stay away from this ad, but never mind, he has done more than required by just giving me a platform like adsoftheworld.
4. My parents, (who often undergo high blood pressure and panic attacks when they hear about the most fucked up industry ADVERTISING) for being extremely courageous, tolerating my erratic timings in order to support me and my decision of perusing advertising.
5. My bosses and art partner, who kept rejecting my not-so-bad ideas, tried my patience, forgave my mistakes and didn’t give up on me even when I gave up on myself. ( I miss you guys a lot)
6. My pet, JOJO, for loving me selflessly even when I hardly spare any time for him.
7. My beloved brother, granny and friends for listening to my crappy ideas until the wee hours and coming up with crappier ones.
8. Hotel Meena, for feeding us world’s oiliest and most unhygienic food at midnight, which often makes me feel like Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2.
9. All the creative minds of the world who spared their precious time and gave me an honest opinion about this ad and helped me think better.
10. Last but not the least…GOD. I think I am seeing the light and my tunnel is about to end.
Thank you all…I dedicate this honour to all of you.
PS: I look forward to have your encouraging support for all the future endeavours. We have a long way to go guys.

NIce idea
Detailed field surveys show that most of the Delhi roads have limited surface soil for the trees to grow. This bit of bare earth is also being covered with a thick layer of impermeable concrete and tiling to make pavements. Tiling right upto the tree trunk severely hampers air and water absorption. The roots near the surface get destroyed, the trunk cannot expand properly and this ultimately affects its growth and even survival. This is not all. On a typical summer day, the tiles get heated to high temperatures and scorch the root system.

Thank you for such interesting insight. This can really help me make another great ad.
hey!
Are u really interested in making ads on social issues?
if yes,i think u must participate in concerned communicator award in INDIA.Concerned Communicator Award is one of the country’s major social print advertising award based on philanthropic issues .last year 21 countries participated in the 10th CCA.winning entry is given US$11000 and there are 12 special mention and best50 category also, all these entries are published in Rajasthan Patrika.
11th international CCA is coming soon.if u are interested You may send your query at cca@epatrika.com
Priyanka - it is good concept (not of the advert) of increasing thread in your post. When you post your work and invite the comment - don't over excite and give replies to those comments which goes against your creative. Creative is creative can have good or bad effect on the viewer's mind. Just feel good and concentrate on making more good when you get positive and also feel good and try to improve if someone comment bad. We are from the art community, we cannot over react the way you did. There are others also in the credit line, we haven't heard anybody's voice.
Sorry if I am harsh, but I feel so I said, your way of creative is good but some how the destiny has not been achieved what it should be. Your more hard work surely will pay you.
All the best.
why would anyone worship trees...???
dont tell me coz they provide food...!!!
coz then you'l hav to worship every second thing of the world including Mcdonalds KFC :)
Fuck me sideways, are we STILL talking about this thing?!?

hi priyanka. can i have ur cell phone #? please
Priyanka... we dont need these kinda ads.. we've a culture thats embedded through ages to protect and respect our nature.... only few westerners like Devosk need these gyan on saving trees, animals etc.. this ad is like "swoosh over their head"..which is not of their capacities... try another what they understand..
Anil
hey hi,
a real nice pc of work, what a thought, it depicts d future.....
i think you should send your entry to social print advertising award organized in India.
11th International Concerned Communicator Award which is open for entries.
The winner gets to win a cash of US $ 11,000. there is no entry fee for this.
Guess u wud like to try ur chance. all u need to do is fill in the entry form, attach ur ad and send it to cca@rajasthanpatrika.com.
u can visit www.concernedcommunicatoraward.org for more details.

you ad is so sexy just like you.... thanks we have a brain with sexy face. i think you have a so much experience with a electric pole. which kind of electric you can afford...
hi priyanka
i like your idea. very good. this ad not for those people who cann't understand hindu philosophy & cultural. In terms of copywriter's thought it self very strong. Save Tree is global issue, i think you have to take another root.
thanks
ss
okkkkk, kinda random but i get it
when i know the cultural background I actually think the idea is good.
Life is a joke. Laugh.
Agree, idea is good. You need a lengthy explanation for non-Indians to get this. Davosk are you around?
