hello all. Has this been done before? It's a school ad. After I did it, people asked if it was done, but no one could think of who or where. I even started doubting my originality.
Also, is it cheasy to show fake ads in a portfolio if you've been working and out of school for a couple of years? : )
thx in advance!

Don't get it.
nice idea but why don't you write 'hi-def tv' in the blue sky withing the frame of the open doors?
I have no problem with spec ads in books for anyone. I do it all the time. idea the client killed? stuff I would like to do? it all goes in. when showing my book, I show the work I want to be doing, not some stuff I had to do. it's up to them if they want me after that.
I don;t get it either.
same here
This SUV comes with a HDTV as standard?

krautland- good idea-now that u pointed that out, it even looks wrong up there. then i could place the tagline/logo maybe in the bottom right corner.
lol. It's supposed to communicate that the Element is a terrific 'outdoors' vehicle, and kindof suggest that you get away from the tv and go see life in person. Teacher loved it! : )
Your teacher probably spends too much time looking at student work rather than real work out there.
The art direction is just strange and not attractive at all to the eye.
The copy is immediately confusing the reader simply because you've written 'TV', we are all looking for a connection with HDTV and the car. I can see what you're trying to do with the open car as a TV screen but it just don't work. Also, you can't just type some words, stick them in the middle of everything and say..."Here's my ad", you need to spend alot more time figuring out where the best place is to place it and the logo. Here, the bottom right corner is not the place.
You need to tear this up in front of your teacher and say "I need to come up with 10 more executions before I show you again".
sorry to bring you down to earth for reality, but you can see the pros here shake their heads :)
this doesn't work, but you have a nice teacher.
guys, I still kind of like this one. the massive window/door space of this car does show you the surroundings in an amplified way just like an HDTV would show you a wider/sharper/etc basketball game compared to that old ntsc tube thing. there is a point here.
what the comments do demonstrate is that you didn't clearly communicate this. people are confused, they need to do too much work to get where you want them to be. that's a shortcoming in your ad you'll have to overcome in order to make this happen.
but I'm still defending simple ideas. and I am a pro, stsanto.
I didnt mean you... as a pro or not as a pro. :)
Yes, but what does the car have to do with a TV?
the windows, not the car. the answer is colors and resolution that are superior to other... got it?
You're defending some vague connection between an HDTV and the real world to sell a car. You're usually more critical than that.
I look at an hdtv the way I look at a window. is that weak?
dunno... I happen to like this.
Im sorry but its not clear for me;/
Position of the car its not good too and logo should be on the bottom of the ad - its only my opinion.
Car window. Who cares?
I've looked and looked, and I've really tried, but I don't get it. I see the connection between HDTV and the real world, but many people have HDTV in their homes right now, does that mean they don't need this Honda? I'm quite confused and apart from that connection I really don't see an idea here as it is right now.
How about just High Definition... why does it have to be TV it baffles us trying to understand.
thanks for all the input! Yeah, it's supposed to communicate to get out and see life in person; pretty much this car will take you outside, and replace your Hidef tv. I used the fact that both doors open like that, and the seats recline all the way down, making a 'frame' like that of a tv.
With this in mind, would the copy be better if it read something in the direction of "Your Next Hi-Def TV".
The benefit of the Element isn't that its doors allow you to see things more clearly. Any car with windows does that. And I doubt Element owners drive to some beautiful location, only to open the doors and take in the view. Even television in this day and age is a little more entertaining than that. So I think your analogy is a little flawed.
