HOW CONTROVERSIAL????? PLEASE READ THE BODY TO SEE THE REASONS BEHIND THIS POST, NEED MORE FEEDBACK!!!!!!

advertadvertadvertadvert

NOTE - I cannot make this clearer, these ads are not about selling the product, I had to include a product to make into an advert form, this is purely about ppls reactions to the ads and not about the product!!!!!!!!! please read this below before commenting on the ads on face value.

I am researching and testing controversial adverts as part of my university course and have decided to mock up a few just to test the reactions.

For all that don't know the 2 different images are of Princess Diana just after her crash in a Parisian tunnel. And the one of 3 ppl in a car is one of the last images taken of Princess Diana before her fatal crash, when her driver in the front with the glasses was under suspicion of causing the accident by drink driving.

I appreciate some people will find these more offensive than others but I have put up this post for valid research work which I will be featuring in my University project. Part of my research is also to test whether or not it more acceptable if ever, to feature such subjects depending on how many years have past since they took place. So please feel welcome to comment on this.

If you put it on a scale of 1-10 how offensive you think these are this would be particularly helpful.

Please comment also on the usual things such as layout, copy fonts used as this is still part of my development.

All comments positive or negative will be recorded and used in my research findings.

wow...umm, yeah, I wouldn't do that and I'm not even british. I think you're pushing it a bit too far there. The first ad, is that her after the accident? I think just concept wise you're pushing a product with a tragic accident of a celebrity...it completely overshadows the product, especially pictures of them dead.

you're exploiting the tragic death of a human being to sell a commercialized product. if this was an ad used to benefit a charity somehow and not just to sell a product then maybe it might be considered controversial. but as it is, it's not controversial, it's just sick.

Please read the body first, this is not for a joke I need reactions to controversial ads for research work for uni.

Conroversy for the saqke of controversy is a pointless and wasteful endeavour. Why are you trying to stir up ire when you don't even care about the efficacy of the ad, and moreover, have not even bothered to choose a brand before doinf the concept? this is an obvious case in which the image came first, the concept came second, and the client came third.

Controversy is only effective when it created discussion. That's what controversy is: A countercultural viewpoint on a common topic. While I agree that showing a bloody mashed up accident victim is indeed controversial, what's the intended reation? To be disgusted? to be fearful? To make the reader feel sorry for, and then smarter than, the por sod who wasn't smart enough to buy this lifesaving brand of tires? This isn't so much offensive as it is insulting and inflammatory.

I can't stress it enough. Controversy for the sake of controversy is pointless and acomplishes nothing, least of all an effetive communication abotu the brand. There's no controvery here...just a gross-ass pic and a tired line.

And the NearBeer ad makes no sense.

I agree 100%. This is not controversial. But i totally disagree on that it "is pointless and acomplishes nothing" - not in this case. if you would publish s.th. like this (which should simulate your "test" - otherwise i don't get the point of your whole research) the creator personally and whatever brand you put in the lower right corner will be ruined. very quickly

I appreciate your comments they are indeed helpful to me. However, this was not about promoting a brand and you are indeed correct that the image came first, and the product second. I am thinking hypothetically and trying to test the boundaries of bad taste by creating these such adverts. Creating effective communication of the brand was not the intended aim, infact it came second after creating an ad which i expected ppl would find offensive.

I am currently researching the ASA (advertising Standards Authority, who control all commercial broadcast and none-broadcast adverts in Britain) and need to be able to gauge how they deem an advert unsuitable or not.

Because these ads will obviously not ever get published and were never intended to, by using this forum as a small representation of society is the best way of gathering the info i require.

P.s. The beer ad is basically saying that the driver drank 5 pints of none-alcoholic beer instead of the 5 pints he did, then he wouldn't have been over the limit and have caused the accident which killed them all.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

I would have to agree with thirty6chambers and rebelscum. Their is a difference between creating controversy and being insensitive. These ads are just Insensitive and wrong on moral grounds, you cant use some1s misery to sell a product.

Thanks for the feedback. However, my aim was never to even contemplate selling these products if you read the body and my replies you will see. It was never more than to test peoples reactions in a hypothetical situation. Dunno how ppl cannot realise this from the body i have written, maybe i havent made it clearer enough?

Your headline needs more question marks, exclamation marks and caps. Other than that it's ready for print.
