Pixelbomb1, Your work appears to be design led...it's of a high standard but with very little creativity. This forum is used for advertising critique if we wanted to see work like this this we could open the nearest generic magazine or brochure.
Sorry but people here want to see idea driven work. Right?
Trust me if i were to do this ads it would be different. But the people I work for PAYS ME. And I make them HAPPY. the bottom line is... I do my job with thier liking. I get Paid and they are happy. If I argue with them It will be an ad that will never finish. I worked with art directors before that are so picky.

There's a big difference. As for clients that don't know the difference between quality creative and junk -- poor them! You get what you pay for, even in advertising. At some point, you throw your hands up, shake it off and move on.
People actually pay you for that rubbish?

the design for both ads is poor - look at the spacing (or lack of) for the different elements in the steak ad. apart from that, I like the steak ad idea.

Well, from a design perspective, which is all these can really be graded by...
The balance and use of positive and negative space needs much more attention.
The visual heirarchy of the ads are muddled and confusing for the most part.
The type has had very little attention to some very important details.
but, like you said, the client probably doesn't know the difference anyways.
what we're striving for here is to give the client what they NEED not what they want - that's easy, you're just another supplier then. If you offer them great creative work - that yes, is hard but rewarding - then you become part of his business and he cannot just fire you and get some other lazy freelancer to do his work...
And if you're not that proud of it, why did you post it?
pbomb: Assuming you are the client as well as the agency, how would you have tackled that brief?
Post *that* result, then there'll be more to talk about.
1. Client: I will tell them my idea and tell them that it's due today before lunch. needs be to uploaded to a
magazine. BTW I have a little budget on this project. (enough to pay rent)
2. Agency: Listen to the client, do what what they want done, GET PAID and MOVE ON. (NEXT.........)
It's sound sellout, but you have to do what you need to survive. I know designers are dime a dozen especially here in the Los Angeles area. It's dog eat dog world out there. Problem is, some creative people think that his/her work is better than the other person. So what, bottom line, who got paid and made the client happy. They will come back again. customer service.
Yup, no arguing with that, but what about when someone cheaper comes along - you're not a business partner, not adding any creative value, so you're not very important. And is it really customer service when you're only giving them the bare minimum for their money?
I say let it go. You spend your time making corrections making a masterpiece for what. I am sorry it is a harsh reality at the end of the day that creation of yours will become a recycled whatever it is. We try to please everybody that's the creative side of creative people, but at the end it's just business. TIME = MONEY.

Trust me. I want to do a KICKASS job but, you have to weigh the situation. Is it worth it?

I worked with an art director dang he's picky. add 2% magenta to the lettuce. I said DUDE we've been here for 3 hours, this is going be a blow-in in a sunday paper no parents gonna look at it and say wow this lettuce should been more greener. C'mon 65lpi it's gonna be off-registration when they sheet feed it anyways and 2 seconds later? RECYLING BIN. Now you're here. Tommorow you're gone. ENJOY LIFE, DRINK COKE.

It's pretty hard to believe that either of these ads ever ran for a real client. In fact, it's pretty hard to believe you work in advertising at all. Certainly your casual dismissal of the benefits of hard work fly in the face of what any heavily-awarded creative director will tell you. Simply put, doing great work is nothing but hard work. Perhaps, if you invested a little more time in your work, you'd earn a lot more praise on this site, and quite possibly, a lot more money.
Thanks for the comment doc. None of these ads ran in any media at all. It's a long story some of the people here remembers it. And I don't need praise from anybody.
p.s. i will take your advice since you're the doctor who knows it all.

Just found comments from both you and pixel where you rip into somebody for their poor english (Vibe) - nice, not sure what other languages you speak, but it's probably his third. Get yourself a gun too son. I'm sick of Pixels stupid arrogant comments, when all he shows is dog shit design with no conceptulising. And his ad above had the man with a gun to his head, I was just feeding off his so called work.
