Legendary Fonts

i've been looking at some ads from the 80s and finding a lot of the same layout/fonts are used. what would you say is the defining font/typeface of that era?

I think Ogilvy's book pretty much defines it in detail. What do you think?

Well, I've only read "Confessions," so I'm really not sure. It's just interesting noticing the aesthetic that transcends every print ad from that era. Seems like someone just found a layout that clicked -- one that was easy to read and view. I guess after that it was follow the leader.
