How to advertise 2 stores in :30 seconds?
Frazzled 3 pencils | Mon, 2009-10-19 09:07Hello,
I am Producing a commercial for a store, actually 2 stores in 1. One part of the store offers swimwear and the other part of the store offers lingerie with a focus on professional bra fitting. The client wants to say a million things in 30 seconds. The challenge is how to sell both stores in one spot? I was thinking of making 2 x :15 and marrying them together.
I am thinking of using 40s vintage footage of ladies at the beach.."Swimwear selection has changed over the years" and then show a bit of the swimwear store..Fade to Black and show vintage lingerie footage..
Any ideas would be greatly apprciated.
thanks.

I am not a professional but i would stay away from showing vintage swimwear if this is a modern store, kind of Victoria's Secret. Women want to feel sexy, they don't want a history lesson on the evolution of the bikini. If you are targeting younger women (which i am guessing you are since the store also sells lingerie) you could split the commercial spot in two parts, as you said, and in the first part advertise swimwear and then from there mention how the store offers a great selection for the night time and then advertise the lingerie. Don't waste too much time mentioning the bra fitting service since this is an extra bonus customers get from shopping from there. Mention in the end how they specialize bra fitting as well. Keep the commercial fresh and hip. But again it all depends on your target market.

Thanks for your reply. Another idea I had was to show a super on the screen that says You are not an ...then flash a picture of an apple, a pear and hourglass a ruler..Everybody is unique and at (store name) we have the perfect fit etc...
The target market is women 20-55.
I liked the idea of showing the vintage bathing suits because it is funny looking and would capture your attention.
Thanks
I might be wrong, but older women (and out of shape) have already learned to be confident in their body and they know that every body is different, shape wise. Since your target market is so broad age-wise, you need to advertise in a more broad way how body shape doesn't matter. Saying you are not an apple etc is like advertising an academic institution and start off saying "you're not stupid".What happens when someone does have an apple or pear shape body, and they know it, you don't want to appeal to them? You really can't convince an overweight person that he's not overweight, but you can convince him/her that bigger people are beautiful too. Instead, point out how the store offers swimwear for everybody, including those with an apple shape, and they will look great in it.
Also, saying you are not an apple, and that everybody's unique doesn't really make sense. People are unique because of the different body shapes, including apple shapes.
Btw, not all women understand how apples, pears, hourglass etc compares to body shapes. I was arguing with my ex one time and i called her a pear (she gained weight on her hips, yes i was being an a**hole) and she didn't get what i meant. Those terms are "slang" that not everybody gets.
Showing vintage bathing suits is something you might want to discuss with your client. It's up to them what image they want to promote for their store. If it's a playful ad you could consider it (to make fun of swimwear back then in a way). But since your target market is 20-55, start with the 60's and not 40's, if you decide to do show vintage.
You should sketch rough screencaps and post them on the main forum, more people will comment and be able to help you.
best of luck
