Description

The passage of Hurricane Otis in Acapulco on October 25, 2023, left more than a million people affected, including 296,000 girls, boys and adolescents, and more than 190 schools.

The devastation of the educational infrastructure in Guerrero has caused the indefinite suspension of classes, leaving thousands of children and young people deprived of access to education. According to authorities, so far 190 schools affected by the hurricane have been identified. The interruption not only implies the loss of knowledge, but also the risk of unemployment for many families, worsening school dropout rates in a state with already high rates. This cycle perpetuates the cycle of poverty, deepening even plus the educational and socioeconomic challenges in the region.

Save the Children in order to guarantee a safe and inclusive return to school and in the shortest possible time, so that girls, boys, adolescents and young people can recover their development and learning processes, this hand in hand with schools, teachers and the educative community.
