Ask Your Doctor

Agency: Bandits & Friends

Description

In recent years the CDC and local governments around the country have successfully raised awareness of the dangers of opioid misuse and addiction, which has helped level off opioid-related overdoses since 2016. However, the federal prohibition on cannabis severely limits the campaign's ability advance the conversation, specifically surrounding cannabis as a safer alternative.

Launching on Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, the "Ask Your Doctor" campaign leverages a trope so common in mainstream advertising—pharmaceutical companies encouraging viewers to ask their doctor about specific drugs—that the American public has grown numb to it. The :30 spot parodies the "Ask Your Doctor" call-to-action in such a way to make viewers question why pharmaceuticals can be advertised broadly while brand or product-specific cannabis advertising is largely prohibited in mainstream outlets, while bringing cannabis into the conversation about the dangers of opioids.

Due to its unique message, it became the first cannabis ad to run movie theaters in St. Louis and Kansas City and is the first cannabis ad running on many mainstream digital publications.

This professional campaign titled 'Ask Your Doctor' was published in United States in October, 2023. It was created for the brand: Show-Me Organics, by ad agency: Bandits & Friends. This Film medium campaign is related to the Cannabis industry and contains 1 media asset. It was submitted 6 months ago.
