Y&R was so proud they won so many awards on the local award show they threw a high ball to Publicis.

This ad you were talking about doesn't have anything to do with Publicis ad, plus this ad on adsoftheworld was posted exactly the same day when Publicis ad was released, which means Publicis ad was created before this one went to the internet.

The Y&R ad was brilliant. A strong idea nicely executed and straight to the point.

The Publicis ad?

They played right into Y&R's hands.

A pathetic weak response.

Badly concieved. (But well ripped off see Emad's link above showing the ad they plagiarized)

Badly art directed and badly written.

Overall a complete mess.

The guys over at Y&R must be delighted.

Creative rules….a brilliant ad? Don’t you know what culture you are in in Jordan, what about respect for tradition? Great creative works with cultural constraints as obstacles to deal with, it doesnt disrepect it. Just FYI Team Y&R invited all their clients to dinner the night after the PG ad to quite them down….DUHH!

Your response to a great ad is very pedestrian Publicis.

We know which door your creatives are really knocking on...

to me it looks similar to SARAYA door!!

Good one for Y&R and a better response by Publicis who went straight to Y&R's clients instead of replying with something more offensive

I'm sure Y&R's clients loved their agency's ad and saw straight through Publicis's transparent, insincere response.

cultural constraints!!!!!
Samer Marzouq…
To my humble knowledge, advertising doesn’t lead society, it in fact reflects society and I don’t think that seeing a middle finger (although it wasn’t that direct) in an ad is not that big of an big issue or “taboo” unless you never seen one before! if that's the case, you should pay a visit to Jordan and see it for yourself.

2too's picture
2too

i feel sorry for who thinks we are still in the stone ages.
jordan is not what you think ,be more open minded when you look at AD’s next time.
if you want to have world class AD’s stop whining and don’t use culture as a way to put down great work.
and what Publicis did is waited 2 days to come up with a stolen AD ,maybe the internet was slow or something .
hope next time they can count on the creative they got not look for ideas of the net ,what a shame.
good luck next time i guess .

sutho's picture

Samer,

What world do you live in????

The middle finger is used all over the world.

It means no more or no less here in Jordan than any other country.

Get real and get down off your ivory tower and do yourself a favour...get a sense of humour.

It was meant as a joke

AdEater's picture
AdEater

As a creative idea it was done well, but they didn't think of the consequences in this case, running this ad in all Jordanian newspaper where all their clients were watching and waiting for appreciation was dumb and that's were Publicis hit them and they were successful in that i guess

suthopeter's picture
suthopeter

Sutho...the world that says it's wrong to use such tone of communication in an Arab "reserved" country. It wasnt meant as a joke it was meant as an insult and all it showed was the disrespect that y&r jordan has as a core value..

suthopeter's picture
suthopeter

2too, the ad is not stolen it has nothing to do with the one you are talking about. PG didnt wait two days, they responded the next day..GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT...you are usually accountable for everything you say unless you work for Y&R that is? So nice try and may the PG Lion forever!

gibbo's picture

Adeater.

do you think that clients look through the newspaper, wanting to be thanked?

Surely they are more intrested in counting their profits after Y&R does great, insightful advertising for them is more important?

Were Publicis successful? time will tell. if clients leave maybe. or they win pitches.

AdEater's picture
AdEater

Gibbo,
Believe they do and you know it as an award is considered a success for their brand as well, but you didn't get the point here that instead of being rude to others they shouldn't neglect their clients in these occasions who were the reason behind the agency's success.

hmmm don't think 2 can say that the add has nothing to do with the one in the ads of the world but you can try to hide it and run around ,one thing you got to learn is to accept the when you do something bad its gona hunt you like you stealing the visual off another ad ,you may try to say a lot of things to get away with it but ppl are not fools ,
i wonder how many ppl can come up with the same idea and the same visual and the same copy(knock knock) hehe
maybe you didn't have time to come up with a better idea ,i understand too upset to work the next day.

I'm still laughing at sutho talking about PG when he is capable of this

NZNN's picture

in my opinion Team's ad was very strong, the fact it got PG replying back proves it just worked! and the debate about it also proves it.. now.. i think if PG wanted to reply they could ve been MUCH MORE CREATIVE, we see lots of comebacks, and usually they work in killing or putting the original ad down, but honestly PG's didnt work, the language itself is hard, lots of YOU, WE , OUR, your CLIENT, OUR CLIENT (s) then you see (Brackets) then at the end a PS:... i was like WHHHAAATTT ARRE UU TRYING TO SAY PG people!! and it would ve been better couting to 10 before writing this screaming m heating copy!! you sounded TEASED, n childish in my opinion, while Y&R's stood mature and confident, right at the following page!!

TNT's picture
TNT

ha ha
They come first in no. of awards won, then before the party is over they go to their rival and give them the finger, yeah THAT's pretty mature. And when the other side tells them: Ok, you won, congrats go away and take care of your own business THAT is childish !!!

No matter how you want to see it you better admit that Y&R scored first but PG won the match

NZNN's picture
NZNN

won the match that they were so immature in to the extent that they almost left creating a scene and questioning the credibility of the organizers?? or is it cause Adpro did it, they thought it's cool?? but the poor thing didnt know what does he want, stay there or walk away??!!! hmmmm ... i think the heat coming out of the ad said it all... very VERY initiative!!

suthopeter's picture
suthopeter

Not knowing where you are NZNN (geographically) and if you are in this industry or not, I tend not to agree with you because the PG response caused a huge stur. First no one expected it to happen and then what it seemed to do was wake up the market in a sense that everyone decided that it's time to go after Y&R for the way they do their business. How was the ad childish to you? All they said was wake up Y&R if you dont say thank you to your clients then all it does is prove that you got your business through the wasta and connections which solidifies rumors already out there.

But honestly in my opinion both are great agencies Y&R took the market to new heights with bigger budgets, nicer media mixes etc, PG adds a friendly passionate flavor. Then there's ADPRO who at the end of the day is the real creative power horse in Jordan:)

NZNN's picture
NZNN

i know it made people go the newspaper to see it, but was it a confident ad? it showed PG a #1 wannabe... when Y&R first started, rumours about wasta were all over the place, but Y&R have proved them wrong,,, the wasta is in the way Y&R present themselves, they dont act as if they are in a talent show! u can ask their clients, they perceive them as the experts, and Y&R have many success stories with their brands that speak for them... the results are not the outcome of two years, they work hard everyday, it's the accumulated work that got them to where they are, not a couple of creative designers!

TNT's picture
TNT

Clearly you're one of the staff, if you are such an expert may i ask you a question: What did Y&R achieve by publishing this ad?

-Recognition for their achievement?
*Celebrating the win in such a way is most probably to draw resentment for this arrogance within the advertising sector

-Strengthening their brand name in the market?
*Actually the opposite is more likely to be achieved, with such an offensive gesture

-Targeting potential clients?
*With PG's reply they looked like a company that cares more about showing-off than they do about the clients

NZNN's picture
NZNN

Woooooowww... TNT ur about to explode!! it feels like the heat that came out of PG's ad... are u teased?? or i'd say brainwashed!! yeah both... u live in the fantasy that is created at PG... well.. enjoy!! i belive PG could ve been a better agnecy if they admit, they are Y&R's followers, PG imitates everything about Y&R! i'de say they got it all wrong!! and regardless who i am or wether i'm within the staff or not.. the questions u raised above i'de say none of the above!! PG got u brainwashed man... u interpret it the way u want!! again, i guess it does feel so being next to number 1!! u proved it LOLL

Y&R you are truely the #1 Advertising Agency in Jordan.
Rais your #1 finger and let THEM feel the finger next to the #1
Y&R cheers to you...

SUTHOPETER's picture
SUTHOPETER

Hey NZNN, why is family brainwashing? and fyi when pg was created there was only one graphic designer there (out of four people). Lets just look at some facts (1) they are the #1 agency in telecommunications across the board (2) they are the number 1 agency in print which is 70% of the jordanian market fyi and (3) when they wanted to walk out it was about the rules that were broken with ads winning that were never placed (i.e. Knot not), ads that were not allowed to be placed because they were not created in Jordan or by Jordanians and finally because the way that the various differernt requests of the organizers that were not requested from Y&R. Yet they realised they were wrong and walked back in.

Finally the truth hurts, earlier this year Y&R incorrectly claimed that they were the first jordanian agency to get shortlisted at a regional or international award show...AS USUAL WRONG! Earlier in the same year ADPRO and PG were both short listed at the MENA CRISTAL and not just in one category...whoopsie...

Eitherway its none of us that determine who's the best agency, it's the client and its my opinion that day by day clients starting to wake up to the truth...BTW who won the pitch for the IAA conference PG or Y&R?

TNT's picture
TNT

YOU STILL DIDN'T ANSWER ANY QUESTION !!!

you know you're proving what i was talking about actually you seem to be brainwashed(we are the market leaders, we're the biggest agency so so)tone, hey nobody denied it but is that a reason to act like this?
and as for your last question you better ask the people you targeted in your ad not me, i guess they already gave you a good answer.

unless there is a logical and meaningful conversation i'm not taking this any further

and one thing FYI you think i work for Publicis! you're wrong :p I'm with another agency

Well, it doesn't matter any more, does it? Competition is harsh, Y&R think they rule the advertising industry while it's only a matter of time till some other agency like Grey, AdPro, or AGA rule Jordan's little world and Publicis is only second best. Face the facts, Publicis is head to head with Y&R and that's whats keeping it alive. If any consider the above ads as a representation to a belief of fair competition, then why wouldn't we give the finger to all your clients' competitors, wouldn't that be fun?

Ever thought of an ad for Nissan, (Shift this 00100).

The telecommunication sector in Jordan is thought of as the most competitive in the region; having four companies in Jordan is quite impressive, and is a representation for continuity and growth. As for the IAA, Y&R's creative work was chosen for their re-branding worldwide while Publicis won the pitch locally! Ad agencies play the game, and complete the so called perfect advertising scene in the Jordanian market.

I believe being number 2 is hard, yet being number 1 is even harder - PLAY THE GAME AND PLAY IT FAIR.

I can't believe the ridiculous mockup ad submitted above with the female finger from Publicis.

Can't this idiot read???

The Team ad is not giving the finger to Publicis for God’s sake!!!!

It’s Publicis giving the finger to Team!!!!

If you read the headline it says: “How does it feel to be next to number one?”

The feeling for the second placed agency is to feel like giving the finger to the first placed agency.

Open your eyes!!!!

Come on people this argue is going nowhere. To start out right the whole idea of saying am number one was stolen, Y&R took it from Hertz campaign 1966, (where the Ad had a hand with a finger pointing out as that of Y&R recent ad saying am number).. Then Avis went back having two fingers in its ad saying am #2 and am proud of it since we'll show our clients that we'll work harder to become #1. Same strategy applied by Public Graphics and I think it was silly to have Y&R putting a stolen idea to advertise saying its #1... Shows little creativity... and no competition in the Jordanian market to start out with taking an old campaign straight out of the book to the press...old school.. And let’s see #1 try something new for a change!

PS: Hertz had Carl Aly Inc. work on the campaign, while Avis had DDB work on its Advertising campaign.

I like Y&R's ad but it looks very familiar.. anyone heard of William Bernbach?

Publicis reply was subtle, not as powerful compared to Y&R's. But I don't see any insincerity here though. And yeah, they could have thought of something more original even if its an overnight job.

I believe Y&R Came Knocing on publicis Door ... They Started talking about how does it feel to be #2

Publicis Reply Wasnt strong Enough and made people doubt thier creativity... if they followed fight fire with

fire it will never settle down.

we know Y&R are number one in jordan and have been since seven years ... but look how big did publicis

goes through these seven years ... dont forget that alot of publicis current employers are previous

employers from Y&R ... so Y&R Wins But Publicis became a big shark that might take over Y@R statics prove my

words ... Zenith and Media Edge have the Same Market Share nowdays ... Good Luck Both Focus More

On creativity Than Throwing Words @ Each others ... Hopefully This Year Awards Will Bring A New Conclusion ..
