Fuck Cannes Lions Campaign

A group of creatives unpleased with the policies and their "damaging" effects on the advertising industry of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity created a protest campaign: Fuck Cannes Lions. The campaign consists of a series of posters you can see below that drive the visitors to the site which explains what's wrong with Cannes Lions:

1- Let copycat shit win like it’s no problem!
2- Created a whole new space of advertisements which lack strategy and has nothing to do with people living on planet earth.
3- Their name, logo and communication SUCK! yet they want us to think they have the right to judge our creativity.
4- Are about money and won’t consider the creativity of real talents who can’t buy into their shit.
5- And yeah, let us not forget how they want us to believe that 30 year-old shitholes are and can be considered “young”.

In an unexpected turn of events I learned from the creators of the campaign, that they are planning to enter this poster campaign to Cannes and expect to win too.

You can follow Fuck Cannes Lions on Twitter and Facebook.

Depends how you define "real". It has not been printed in a magazine as far as I know, but it's on the internet.

This protest reminded me of this movie.

Excellent reference. It reminded me of Al pacino in Scent of a woman satirically saying 'Worthy of being a Baird man'.

I like the manifesto behind this campaign ! i think it is real ! and i am supporting !
hell with Lions Cannes !
let those Cannes creatives go work as stand up comedians or movie makers !
Advertising is communication !
in real life we don't like people who are obscure in their communication but in advertising we give awards to screwed up, over complicated freeks !
DOWN CANNES !

Richard Feynman was a genius who inspired me with his book: "QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter"

BUT there is something he missed.

It's called: RECOGNITION.
We as humans seem to need it, the validation of who we are, what we did and how we are perceived. This seems to be the point where all those "Prize" institutions are filling this need. I don't see any difference between Cannes or Clio or their numerous clones.

Richard Feynman's eschewing recognition is an exception, and not the rule! (and who knows, *saying* that he wishes no recognition to any who will listen may be his way of getting it)

These so-called protest groups received attention from their acts and now they are looking for the reward of recognition as a prize...
