What the..?
What the..?
The official line is "This is the vision at the very heart of the new London 2012 brand."
But what do you all make of the 1980's cover band logo?
shiezen!
And now it's gone so far that people are referring to the logo as "Lisa Simpson giving head"

Don't understand? Let me draw you a picture.
And there's even an online petition, more an issue with the English and their love of both complaining and queing than anything else.

When people see the new brand, we want them to be inspired to make a positive change in their life.

Wow! I love the sound and love the logo. Very very fresh. The logo looks like some broken glass for a kaleidoscope.
From the Sydney Morning Herald - Tues 5th June
The London 2012 design has been described as a disfigured swastika, an arrangement of beer mats, a window kicked in by a football, a graffiti tag, a toileting monkey and a scribbled joke.
Stephen Bayley, art critic and founder of the London Design Museum, described the logo in The Guardian newspaper as a "puerile mess, an artistic flop and a commercial scandal".

Hmmm. This is going to sound very crude, but it has also been described over here in London as 'Lisa Simpson giving head'.
Someone made that comment in a local paper, and people have noticed the similarity in advertising blogs.

From a BBC article:
A segment of animated footage promoting the 2012 Olympic Games has been removed from the organisers’ website after fears it could trigger epileptic fits. Prof Graham Harding, who developed the test used to measure photo-sensitivity levels in TV material, said it should not be broadcast again. Charity Epilepsy Action said it had received calls from people who had suffered fits after seeing it.
And:
Emphasising that it was not the logo itself which was the focus of worries, she (A London 2012 spokeswoman) said: “This concerns a short piece of animation which we used as part of the logo launch event and not the actual logo.”
The bit that was to be complained about is when the diver hits the water and the ripples spread out. these ripples turn into flashing brightly coloured animations. Its in the newsitems here too.
I agree with the media tough. I do not think this logo should represent something as big as the Olympics. It just doesn't cut it. And the animation that went with it was too amateurish. Almost student work.
Anyway, I am interested in how this is going from here on.

...and let the poets cry themselves to sleep. And all their tearfull words would turn back into steam
The logo bites the big one.
The idea of making the Olympics for everyone is lovely. I wonder if that's how it will actually play out though. I hope it will. There aren't many Olympic logos that I've thought were great. There's too much pressure and too many hands in the pot for anything really good to come from them.
My favourites have been: Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, and Nagano 1998.
